Administrative thrills.
These two words absolutely are an oxymoron. The words themselves are district and don’t go together, unless you’re in an applied business 101 course where they’re trying to hold your interest.
I met with the cadets at Crestmont today in an attempt to make the subject of Boards and Councils in the The Salvation Army, interesting. I failed. Not normally short of imagination, I almost fell asleep in this lecture.
Here’s some truth. Administration in The Salvation Army can be interesting, especially when you add a faith dimension. When describing the bureaucratic nature of any organization like I tried today, reckon that it won’t be much exciting.
The best part is when the bureaucracy leads to souls saved. How so? A good administrative practice will actually facilitate the mission. Ours does that. Thank God.
Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 2 Peter 1:4 NIV

I believe that knowing how things work within The Salvation Army is essential. It’s really easy to be frustrated with the system, when you don’t understand it. When we have blanks of uncertainty the enemy is quick to fill those blanks with our deepest fears. Knowing how to work with and within the system, puts to rest the “us vs. them” mentality. It is only when we understand that we are all on the same team, with the same goal of seeing souls saved that we can truly be effective.
Good word, brother.
