Trafficked women ‘used as prostitutes’

by Jim Knaggs on October 23, 2009

According to Channel 7 News, “almost all people trafficked into Australia are forced into the sex industry, a new report reveals.

Fully 95 per cent of trafficking victims were females made to work as prostitutes, and most came from Southeast Asia.

Home Affairs Minister Brendan O’Connor responded to the report from the Australian Institute of Criminology by saying much was being done to combat people trafficking from Asia and the Pacific.”

With respect, ‘much … being done’ just isn’t enough. Mr. O’Connor, The Salvation Army stands ready to support the cause to change this reality. Truly, what we’re doing just now isn’t enough either. Let’s put our people together to erase this travesty. There are more people in slavery today than ever before in history. Many of them are trafficked. Let me also point out the obvious. This is a gender crime and the criminals are men. God help us.

1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners  Isaiah 61:1  NIV

    I completely agree.

I am trying my hardest to raise awareness about these issues in HK but am experiencing difficulty as it is very hidden in HK and prostitution, to an extent, is part of their culture/history (concubines, geishas etc.), therefore, the truth is not very well received.

It breaks my heart to see such a wealthy country investing their money into these crimes (knowingly or not) as opposed to stopping it.

But don't worry – I'm working on it.

I pray that God will put these issues in people's hearts and that they will be moved to do something about it.
